Doc Short Funding Launch: A Call to Action

🚨 NEW DOCUMENTARY SHORT LAUNCH

I'm proud to share our latest project: FARMVILLE: FIRE IN A TAR PAPER SHACK—a documentary short about a 16-year-old girl who stood up to a system built to keep her down.

In 1951, Barbara Johns led a student walkout to protest the unsafe, unequal conditions at her segregated high school in Farmville, Virginia. That single act of courage—one that later joined other cases to form Brown v. Board of Education—helped change the course of American history.

But when Virginia chose to shut down public schools for five years rather than integrate, Black families were forced into an unimaginable fight for their children’s right to learn.

As someone who hates bullies, I was deeply moved by Barbara’s story. She had the bravery and bravery to stand up to an entire system. This film is my way of helping ensure her legacy—and the struggle of her community—is never forgotten.

I have been driven to tell this story for more than two decades, finally acting on that passion over the past two years. We’ve completed 80% of filming through self-funding, and now we need your support to finish strong.
